Law of the Sea

Good morning,

I would like to request help for my research paper topic titled "Maritime Delimitation and UNCLOS: Assessing Bolivia's Claim to Chilean Waters."

Some background info:
Recently, I discovered an important territorial boundary dispute between Bolivia and Chile that traces back to the 1880s. It seems that Bolivia, having seen Chile lose part of its territorial sea line to Peru in 2008, desires to reclaim not only lost land but access to the sea. Bolivia is a landlocked country and it filed a petition to the ICJ in 2013. Chile has filed a counterclaim stating the ICJ has no jurisdiction, because the signed treaty between the two countries well-establishes that the Bolivian government lost all rights to land and access to the sea. The first public hearing is scheduled for May 8th, 2015.

I have done some preliminary research and most of my sources are electronic. I would like to diversify my research by seeking an books that you may recommend to aid my research. I am interested in international case law, historical documents, economic reports, cultural and social components or any materials you may find of value.

I really appreciate the help.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Answer

Hello Jaime,

I would be happy to help you strategize about your research.  I have time both tomorrow or Friday afternoon, between 2:30-4pm.  Would you be available during either of those times? if so, what time would you prefer?

Regards,
